On May 5, the quiet streets of Brockton will resonate with the profound melodies of both sacred and secular music, as Jubilate Chorale presents its highly anticipated spring concert, “Heavenly Harmony”, at the Christ Congregational Church. At 3 p.m., the serene church environment will fill with the rich sounds of a blend unlike any other—featuring the epic Lord Nelson Mass by Joseph Haydn and a variety of beloved operatic classics.

This year’s programme stands out due to the inclusion of young talents from the Rose Conservatory, who will share the stage with the seasoned voices of Jubilate Chorale. The students are set to perform “Song of the Fortune Tellers” from Verdi’s “La Traviata” and “Evening Prayer” from Humperdinck’s “Hansel and Gretel”, alongside more selections by the chorale including “Les Toreadors” from Bizet’s “Carmen”, “Anvil Chorus” from Verdi’s “Il Trovatore”, and the famed “Nessun Dorma” from Puccini’s “Turandot”, featuring tenor Fausto Miro.

Rose Conservatory, founded by Gregory Fernandes and a beacon of musical education in the community, emphasises nurturing young talent and providing them with stellar performance opportunities. The collaboration with Jubilate Chorale is a testament to their commitment, enriching students’ experiences and bringing top-notch musical renditions to the local audience.

The concert will also shine a spotlight on Haydn’s grand composition, the Lord Nelson Mass, officially titled “Missa in Angustiis” or “Mass in Times of Trouble”. Composed in a turbulent 1798, this intense piece became emblematic of resilience and victory, assuming the moniker of Lord Nelson following the British Admiral’s significant naval victory at the Battle of the Nile.

The conductor and artistic director of Jubilate Chorale, Murray Kidd, brings a wealth of experience to the ensemble. With an impressive background in choral direction that includes working with notable orchestras and completion of prestigious music education, Kidd’s leadership is instrumental in crafting performances that are both technically sound and emotionally stirring.

Accompanying the chorale and soloists, including soprano Alisa Cassola, mezzo-soprano Alexis Peart, and baritone Juan Suarez, will be the Boston Public Quartet and principal pianist James Hay, among others. This ensemble promises to enhance the lyrical and musical arrangement, ensuring a rich auditory experience for all attendees.

Tickets for the event are priced at £20 for adults and £15 for seniors and students, with additional discounts available through the Mass Cultural Council’s Card to Culture program. This performance not only showcases the cultural vibrancy of Brockton but also highlights the powerful collaboration among local artists, educators, and cultural organizations.

Supported in part by grants from the Brockton and Easton Cultural Councils, the upcoming concert is a celebration of classical music and community spirit, inviting music lovers from all over to witness the harmonious blend of youth and experience, history and celebration—all encapsulated in one splendid afternoon of musical excellence.
