Major Roadworks on A55 Set for June
Motorists using the A55 in Gwynedd, North Wales, will face significant disruptions due to major roadworks scheduled for June 2024. Essential carriageway resurfacing will occur on a 3km section of the westbound A55 between junctions 11 (Llandygai) and 10 (Caernarfon Road, Bangor). The maintenance work starts on Sunday night, June 9, and will last until early Sunday morning, June 30.
Road Closures and Diversions
A contraflow system will be implemented from June 11 to June 28, necessitating lengthy diversions and overnight lane closures when the system is installed and removed. Full closures of the A55 in both directions will occur at several points:
– June 9, 7pm – June 10, 6am: Lane closures in both directions.
– June 10, 7pm – June 11, 6am: Full westbound closure.
– June 11, 7pm – June 12, 6am: Lane 1 closures in both directions.
– June 11, 7pm – June 28, 10pm: Contraflow in operation.
– June 29, 7pm – June 30, 6am: Full closures to remove the contraflow.
Diverted traffic will follow routes via the A4244 and other local roads, with detours ranging from 6.2 to 8.8 miles. Notably, diversions are organized to avoid concurrent eastbound and westbound detours and to prevent disruptions to ferry traffic.
Affected Areas
Troubled sections include:
– Westbound from J12 Tal-y-bont to J11 Llandygai.
– Eastbound from J9 Treborth to J11 Llandygai.
– Both directions between J10 Caernarfon Road and J11 Llandygai.
