Police Investigate Vandalism at Oxfordshire Village Playground

Authorities are investigating a case of vandalism at a children’s playground in Marcham, a village in Oxfordshire. Over the weekend of May 11-12, 2024, nails were found glued to the playground equipment, including swings, slides, and a rotating platform.

Three-year-old Emily Smith discovered the first nail on a see-saw, prompting her mother, Verity, to inspect and remove similar nails from other pieces of equipment. The incident has left local parents distressed, although no injuries have been reported.

Marcham Parish Council confirmed the playground equipment has been inspected and made safe. Notices advising parents to be vigilant have been posted, and the area is undergoing frequent checks.

Thames Valley Police are treating the incident as criminal damage and have urged anyone with information to contact them at 101, quoting reference number 43240224827.

Marcham is located approximately five miles southwest of Oxford and features a historic 13th-century church and a primary school near the affected playground.
