A tragic car accident occurred on Sunday evening on Milperra Road, Milperra, in Sydney’s south-west, resulting in the deaths of 41-year-old Thai Duong and his 12-year-old daughter, Haili. The crash happened at approximately 7:40 PM when a white Toyota Ute collided with the black Toyota sedan they were in, causing it to roll over and trap its passengers.

Emergency services responded to the scene, located near Bankstown Aerodrome, where they worked to free the occupants of the rideshare vehicle. Despite the critical care efforts of paramedics and doctors, both Thai Duong and his daughter succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Duong’s 10-year-old son, who was in the backseat, was treated by paramedics and taken to Westmead Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

The 52-year-old male driver of the DiDi rideshare vehicle was also injured and transported to Westmead Hospital in serious but stable condition. The 19-year-old male driver of the Toyota Ute sustained minor injuries and was taken to Liverpool Hospital for mandatory testing.

The Duong family was part of the St Brendan’s Catholic Primary School community in Central Bankstown. Principal Patricia Laidler informed the school community of the tragic accident in an email, expressing condolences and offering support to the grieving family.

An investigation into the exact circumstances of the crash has been launched by the Crash Investigation Unit, which has established a crime scene. Anyone with relevant information, including dashcam footage, is encouraged to contact Bankstown police or Crime Stoppers.
