Actor Ryan Guzman recently shared details about his mental health struggles, including a suicide attempt nearly seven years ago. The 36-year-old star, known for his role in the TV series “9-1-1” and the 2015 film “The Boy Next Door” with Jennifer Lopez, revealed this personal information during an interview with People and on the podcast “Never Said This Before.”

Guzman highlighted that he attempted to take his own life but was fortunate enough to have a second chance. He emphasized the importance of vulnerability, especially among men, and urged them to seek support from peers and friends. He mentioned the significant impact of the death of his friend, Stephen “tWitch” Boss, in 2022, which reminded him of the value of mercy and empathy.

In past social media interactions, Guzman has opened up about dealing with depression and anxiety, advising others to keep their minds occupied with activities as a way to navigate negativity. He commended the importance of finding supportive relationships and letting go of toxic ones to maintain a healthy lifestyle.

Guzman currently plays firefighter Eddie Diaz on “9-1-1,” a character who also faces mental health challenges, making the portrayal cathartic for him. He expressed his desire for men to renounce the traditional notion of toughness that demands emotional suppression and instead, encourage emotional openness and mutual support.
