In a significant move to boost the visibility of women’s sports, Klarna teams up with Angel City Football Club and youth organizations to offer special game-day experiences for Los Angeles-based youth soccer players in the 2024 NWSL season.
In an inspiring move to make professional women’s sports more accessible to the younger generation, Klarna Bank AB (publ) collaborates with Angel City Football Club (ACFC) and two Southern California-based youth sports organizations, Section Z and Football For Her. This initiative, announced on March 15, 2024, aims to reserve seats at BMO Stadium for Los Angeles-based youth soccer players throughout the 2024 National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) season. By providing this unique opportunity, Klarna and ACFC hope to inspire young female and nonbinary athletes to dream big and strive for their goals in sports.
The partnership between Klarna, a global payments network and shopping assistant, and Angel City Football Club, a member of the NWSL, is now in its third season. Their collaboration has consistently aimed to enhance the game-day experience for fans through innovative payment and shopping solutions, and now, they are extending their influence by focusing on young aspiring athletes.
Starting with the ACFC’s home opener against Bay FC on Sunday, March 17, 30 specially designated seats will be offered to members of Section Z and Football For Her at each home game. These attendees will also receive custom merchandise to showcase their support for ACFC, fostering a sense of belonging and community among the young fans. In an exciting addition to the live game viewing, fans will have the opportunity to obtain a limited-edition Klarna Home Opener Patch, embodying the season’s theme “See Her, Dream Her, Be Her.” This initiative stresses the importance of representation in sports and underscores the belief that witnessing female athletes in action can inspire and motivate the next generation.
Moreover, Klarna and ACFC will host a midseason clinic exclusively for the youth soccer players, granting them an unforgettable experience alongside their idols. This clinic will not only include drills but also a Q&A session with ACFC players, coaches, and Klarna executives, providing valuable insights into professional women’s soccer and the significance of such partnerships.
Megan Gokey, Klarna’s Head of B2C Marketing in North America and the United Kingdom, emphasized the company’s commitment to supporting women in sports by making the fan experience more accessible and inspiring. By reserving tickets for youth soccer players, Klarna and ACFC aim to give back to the community and encourage young fans to believe in their potential.
The founders of Section Z and Football For Her expressed their gratitude towards Klarna and ACFC for their significant support. These collaborations are expected to have a profound impact on the participants, offering them exposure to professional sports environments and reinforcing the message that they too can achieve greatness in their chosen fields.
Angel City Football Club, co-founded by notable figures such as Natalie Portman, Kara Nortman, and Julie Uhrman, has rapidly become a beacon of empowerment and opportunity in women’s sports. The club’s initiatives go beyond the field, aiming to inspire positive change and promote inclusivity within the community.
Through these thoughtful engagements and contributions, Klarna and Angel City Football Club are playing pivotal roles in revolutionizing how young fans interact with women’s sports, paving the way for a more inclusive and inspiring sports culture.
